The Easter holidays spent at home due to the coronavirus emergency can be a great opportunity to give free rein to your creativity, first and foremost on our tables. The typical Easter breakfast, lunch and festive Monday celebrations will be the perfect occasion to show off many beautiful DIY decorations, centerpieces made with flowers and candles, as well as cheerful and colourful place cards that will entertain children and adults.

The experts at Habitissimo give us some creative ideas for a DIY Easter full of homemade crafts.

Coloured homemade eggs

Boiled eggs are a classic Easter breakfast. Why not colour them to make the table more cheerful and fun and spend time with the little ones? Following recipes which are 100% natural, your eggs will be coloured in all the colours of the rainbow without using any chemical products, but simply using the gifts of the earth: fruit and vegetables!

For a better colouring you can use white eggs and boil them for about 20 minutes with the ingredient corresponding to the colour you want to obtain - turmeric for yellow, spinach for green, blueberries for purple, red onion skin for red, ground coffee for brown and so on. After this step, place the eggs and the cooking water in a bowl together with a spoonful of white vinegar (one spoonful for every 250 ml of coloured liquid) and leave them to rest for about 4 hours. A long settling time will give you a deep and bright colour, a shorter time will give you a more romantic pastel colour.

Spring centrepieces

Easter is a wonderful opportunity to go wild with your creativity by creating DIY centerpieces that will give a fresh and cheerful look to the table. Use whatever materials you have and give your centrepieces your own individual stamp: flowers and candles for a chic and romantic effect; eggs, chocolate and candies for a cheerful and tasty style; carrots, bunnies and chicks to entertain children and give a touch of spontaneity. Some examples? A simple egg box decorated and embellished with flowers, candles and coloured eggs in the same shade as the flowers will give your table a chic and refined look. An Easter centrepiece with spring colours and scents is also a great option and can be easily obtained by filling a transparent vase with eggs coloured in shades of pink and flowers that define spring such as gerberas, roses, tulips and buttercups.

"Shabby chic" ideas

The decorations for the Easter table have always been associated with nature and the blossoming of colours and scents that infuse joy and joy of life with pastel colours, tender animals and delicate flower arrangements.

The style that best summarises these characteristics is "shabby chic", a mix of romanticism and elegance. And along these lines, there are hundreds of ideas to decorate the table following the line of simplicity and spontaneity: peach branches in the middle of the table, wild flowers gently laid in watering cans or ancient jugs, Easter trees decorated with eggs in shabby chic style, a table set with soft colours, candlesticks and fresh flowers.

Personalised placeholders

Personalised placeholders are another simple but effective idea to make the Easter dinner table special. Bunnies, chocolate eggs, Easter baskets, flower arrangements: these are just some of the many symbols that can be used to make beautiful place cards and cheer up your Easter celebrations.

One original suggestion is to make placeholders from old corks. In each cork you have to put some wooden sticks (about 15 cm long), at the end of which you will then apply some Easter-themed shapes (such as bunnies or chicks) which you could create with coloured cardboard. All that is left to do is add the name of each person to the placeholder and let the celebrations commence!
