The tenth edition of "I Luoghi del Cuore" (Places of the Heart) launched by the Italian Environmental Fund (FAI) is underway. The organisation supports and promotes conservation and promotion projects in art and nature in Italy. This year, it is possible to vote for your beloved Italian site of choice until 15th December 2020 and in this way, more sites can be protected.
The competition, which started on 6th May, will end on 15th December 2020 aims to save, protect and enhance some of Italy's most beloved places. The initiative is organised by FAI in collaboration with Intesa Sanpaolo.
As explained in a publication by FAI, this year the competition is enriched by two special rankings. The first is dedicated to "Italy above 600 metres", that is, places belonging to the internal mountain areas of the country; the second is related to "Historical Places of Health", architectural heritage with deep roots in our past, and that today, in the face of the health emergency, places that have become valiant shelters to protect us all.
Participation is free of charge and open to all; it is possible to vote for several places, but only one vote can be cast for each one. The most voted places will be rewarded for the presentation of a concrete project. The amounts of 50,000 euros, 40,000 euros and 30,000 euros will be awarded to the first, second and third place respectively, while the place most voted via the web will become the star of storytelling or promotional video made by the foundation. For the winners of the two special rankings, a total of 20,000 euros will be up for grabs.
After the publication of the results, FAI and Intesa Sanpaolo will launch the usual invitation to tender for the selection of the projects on the basis of which all owners (public or non-profit) and stakeholders of the places that have obtained at least 2,000 votes will be able to submit a request for restoration, enhancement or preliminary investigation to the foundation based on specific action projects.
