In Italy there is a growing interest in what are usually known as tiny houses, or mini houses, whether they are prefabricated, wooden, modern or on wheels. Although the COVID-19 pandemic has lead people to rediscover the importance of space, these small houses are also a great solution for weekend trips, for a lifestyle change or for those who want a dedicated space for smart working. Let's have a look at everything you need to know about tiny houses in Italy and beyond.

International success of tiny houses

As evidence of the growing interest in tiny homes at international level, a German influencer recent made the news after buying the smallest flat in Germany (just 7 m2) for almost 78 thousand euros. YouTube is also home to videos of the world's smallest flats which, despite their small size, are in no way inferior to larger, more luxurious ones, while in the USA, people are fascinated by the hit TV show, Tiny House Nation which was bought by Netflix and now shown throughout the world, Italy included.

Build your own tiny office in Italy

One of the particular attractions of tiny houses in Italy is for work purposes. As a result of the coronavirus health emergency, many people found themselves working from home but in a small flat or poperty that didn't have enough room for a home office. This is where tiny homes offer the perfect solution, as people are opting to transform small, prefab homes into an office or work space. With tiny homes even available to buy on Amazon, these "tiny offices" are being increasingly considered by those who work remotely.

Tiny houses on wheels

While we're on the subject of smart working, there's also a company that has designed a mini house on wheels that allows you to take your office (or home) almost anywhere, ideal perhaps for those who like camping in the summer and enjoying the Italian countryside. And it is precisely these transportable tiny houses that are attracting more interest than you might imagine. IKEA, the Swedish furniture giant, has even designed a small prefricated house on wheels which is reasonably priced, stylish and with more space than you might think!

Types of tiny houses

There are various types of tiny houses available on the market in Italy, from those made from wood and aluminium to those that look like simple vintage caravans, but which often conceal unimaginable attention to detail and luxury.

Mini dream homes

In many cases, in fact, the most surprising aspect when one discovers the tiny house phenomenon is precisely the luxury and care taken when it comes to the interior. There are endless examples of tiny houses that are furnished like luxury homes or according to the Feng shui tradition, or those in which unique elements of interior design are included, while others also focus on sustainability.

Start a new life surrounded by nature

There is also no shortage of mini dream homes designed and built to live isolated from the world, surrounded by the beauty of nature, or even tiny homes that grow in height to take advantage of every inch of space. Why not start a new life in nature and enjoy the beauty of the Italian mountains, lakes and countryside?

Wooden houses in Italy

Wooden houses in Italy are said to be the future, giving tiny houses another advantage. The main material from which tiny houses are made is generally wood because of its nature, characteristics and properties. It is particularly suitable for making tiny houses that can be assembled and transported practically anywhere, not to mention the eco-friendly benefits.

Prefabricated tiny houses

Italy has seen a revolution in recent years when it comes to prefabricated houses, and now prefab houses in Italy are going tiny. Among the various types of tiny houses, prefabricated ones also offer several advantages, but one of the most important aspects is the speed with which they are produced; many tiny houses can be assembled in just a couple of days, and in some cases it's simply a question of hours.
