What are the destinations for sustainable tourism in Italy? The New York Times has indicated them by publishing the "52 Places for a Changed World". This is the 2022 list that highlights places around the world where travellers can be part of the solution.
As far as Italy is concerned, the New York Times reported three locations: Chioggia, Courmayeur and Naples. In detail, Chioggia is in first place, Courmayeur in thirteenth and Naples in thirty-fourth.
Chioggia
Chioggia, also known as 'little Venice', is, according to the US newspaper, 'a delightful alternative for travellers looking for a lesser-known destination'.
Courmayeur
For the New York Times, 'this charming town at the foot of Mont Blanc, Courmayeur, in a historically French-speaking region of Italy, has long sought to strike a balance between tourism and conservation'.
Naples
Speaking of Naples, the New York Times recalled that "a group of residents in the working-class neighbourhood of San Giovanni a Teduccio created a 'fair energy' community to provide free, clean electricity to families living below the poverty line with a system of 166 solar panels. The local authorities also encourage tourists to visit the city on foot, taking tours through the fabulous steps of Naples".
