The Jubilee, an event traditionally held every 25 years, is a highly significant occasion for the Roman Catholic Church and its faithful. The opening of the Holy Door marked the beginning of the Holy Year, which will feature numerous events dedicated to various groups of worshippers. Here’s an overview of the 2025 Jubilee programme and the most important religious dates of the year.

When does the 2025 Jubilee begin and end?

The 2025 Jubilee officially began on 24 December 2024 with the opening of the Holy Door at St Peter’s Basilica, a symbolic moment marking the start of the Jubilee celebrations. This was the first time since 2000, the date of the last ordinary Jubilee.

The Jubilee is set to conclude on 6 January 2026, on the Feast of the Epiphany. During this period, pilgrims will have the chance to participate in a wide range of religious and cultural events, as well as visit all the Jubilee Churches in Rome and across Italy.

How to participate in Jubilee events

To take part in one of the major events planned for the 2025 Jubilee, you’ll need to book well in advance. The first step is to apply for the Pilgrim’s Card, a free, personalised digital card required for making reservations. The card also entitles you to discounts on transport, accommodation, dining, and cultural events.

Once you’ve received your QR code, you can register for various events, ensuring you adhere to the respective deadlines. You can sign up as an individual pilgrim or as a group leader, even for smaller groups. All these steps can be completed via the official website.
