From time to time, we like to take you on a tour of some of Italy's most unique architecture and hotels, and today's subject certainly fits the bill. Situated in the Italian mountains of South Tyrol, on the border with Austria and Germany, Hotel Zirmerhof has just completed two new buildings for its guests, and what is unique about this project is that the buildings are made entirely of recycled wood. The material was recovered from the 14 million trees that Storm Vaia damaged in the area in 2018, when considerable damage was caused to Italian forests.
The two new suites consist of six luxury bedrooms, each with its own living room, bathroom and terraces totally integrated into the surrounding landscape. Recycled pine and larch wood has been used. Although the two buildings have a similar shape, the distribution is different.
The first is circular and has a capacity for two suites located on two different levels, while the second building has a linear shape and houses four double-height rooms. Both have panoramic terraces on the upper floor, while the doors and windows echo traditional openings of mountain houses. Let's have a look around:
