We've all heard of Italy's 1 euro houses which are among the initiatives to repopulate villages in the Italian countryside, but did you know that there are also economic incentives where you can get paid to move to Italy? This is the case in Abruzzo, which is offering a bonus of 2,500 euros to anyone who moves to a mountain municipality in the region. There are also incentives for families with children. Let's find out more.

In detail, the Abruzzo region of Italy has introduced a 2,500 euro bonus for those who move to one of the mountain municipalities in the region. This is an incentive to attract new residents, which is granted for three years, in favour of families who, within 90 days of receiving the application, move their residence to one of the 173 mountain municipalities and keep it for at least five years, together with their habitual residence.

The application must be submitted by filling out the digital form on Abruzzo Region website in a special section where you will need your SPID. 173 municipalities are involved, divided by province as follows: 20 in Teramo, 24 in Pescara, 74 in L'Aquila and 55 in Chieti.

There is also another additional scheme aimed at families. Known as the childbirth allowance, an annual sum of money is paid to families for each child born, as of 1st January 2022, until the child reaches three years of age, or for each adopted or fostered child as of 1st January 2022, until the child reaches three years of age or until the fostering ceases if it occurs before three years of age.

The amount of the allowance is established according to certain precise criteria:

  • 2,500 euros per year, in favour of households in which the child born, adopted or in foster care is recognised as seriously disabled, or of households with one or more minors with serious disabilities until the child reaches the age of six;
  • 2,500 euros per year for households with only one parent;
  • 2,400 euros per year for households for every first child born, adopted or fostered;
  • 2,300 euros per year for each child born, adopted or fostered after the first.
