Having an internet connection at home is a must nowadays. However, you could be paying much more each month than you should. That's why SosTariffe.it has compiled a list of tips for saving money.

The main problem, in terms of cost increase, is the reshaping of tariffs, a widespread practice in the Italian telephony market, both fixed and mobile. In the specific case of subscriptions for Internet at home (which also include the use of the phone), changes in the contract conditions can often result in very high increases.

But how do you know if this is the case? Usually, operators inform customers by text message or invoice communication, not to mention that almost always the contract changes involve worse economic conditions for the consumer. In some cases, these changes can also be accompanied by the transformation of free services in fee-based services.

But there are some useful countermeasures. According to SosTariffe.it, in order to defend oneself from price increases, one can change to a cheaper provider. In this way, you could save up to 13 euros per month and up to 159 euros in a year.

The Observatory of SosTariffe.it has shown that during the two-year period of 2018-2019 the fees of "old customers" (users who had adhered to fixed internet rates, now no longer on promotion, at least three years ago) have recorded an average price increase of about 2.32 euros per month. This means that there has been an average annual increase of 27.87 euros.

According to the data collected, the average expenditure of these customers before the tariff modulation was 38.22 euros per month and 459.96 euros per year. With the new conditions, the "old customers" had to deal with an average monthly fee of 40.65 euros (487.83 euros per year).

In order to save on the cost of an Internet subscription in your Italian home, it is therefore necessary to monitor the offers for new customers. The average fee for new customer offers is currently around 27.36 euros per month (328.34 euros per year).

“Old customers" who choose to switch operators can save on average 13.29 euros per month (159.49 euros per year). As required by current legislation, it is possible to withdraw from the contract without paying any decommissioning costs or penalties by notifying your provider of your wish to exercise your right of withdrawal no later than the day before the date of commencement of the contract change.
