Travel beyond national borders after the COVID-19 pandemic is now allowed, both in Italy and across Europe. However, in each country there are different rules and restrictions, meaning it's more important than ever to be up to date with the most recent rules and regulations before planning your summer holidays. That's why the European Commission has decided to launch an app and a website dedicated to the tourism sector to help travellers keep safe and healthy: let's see what it is all about.

This new initiative from the European Commission is called called Re-open EU and is a web platform that helps travellers find answers to questions about the rules and restrictions they will find once they arrive in EU member states. Those who want to travel in summer 2020, can already consult the site which is updated frequently.

The service consists primarily of an interactive map which can be consulted in the 24 official languages of the European Union. Easy to use, it provides all the basic information needed to plan a trip across national borders. In a few clicks it is possible to know if and where the use of face masks is mandatory, where there is a quarantine period for those who enter the country, and what the sanitation protocols adopted by hotels, public transport, bars or restaurants are.

Once on the site, you simply have to select your desired destination and you will be redirected to a map with all the information and updated news about the opening of the borders, the epidemiological situation, rules and restrictions and the security measures in force tourist destinations. It is each member state that uploads and updates the information on the site based also on data provided by the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC).
