The Italian village of Tropea has been elected "Borgo dei Borghi 2021", taking the title of Italy's most beautiful village in 2021. Tropea, located in Calabria, fought off stiff competition from 20 other beautiful towns, but the "Pearl of the Tyrrhenian Sea" proved to be unbeatable with its history, charm and culture. Let's check out why Tropea is so special and have a look at the final ranking of the 2021 edition of the most beautiful villages in Italy.

Located in the province of Vibo Valentia, Tropea stands on a headland, straddling the gulfs of Gioia and Santa Eufemia. The unmistakable symbol of the town is the large rock on which the Sanctuary of Santa Maria dell'Isola stands. This is just one of the precious architectural and cultural beauties, including noble palaces from the 18th and 19th centuries, enjoyed by the town, which has also been nicknamed 'The little Athens of Calabria'. Another important element of this village is of course food scene, and the gastronomic symbol in this area is the famous red onion.
