Summer 2022 prices are set to rise. What are the expected increases and how much will it cost to go on holiday in Italy in 2022? Whether you're planning on travelling to Italy from abroad, or already live in Italy and are planning a summer getaway, let's look at some predictions from Italian consumer associations. From airline tickets to holiday resorts, cheap holidays to Italy might be harder to find, as this is how rising prices will affect 2022 Italy holidays.

Rising transport prices

According to Codacons, a comsumer rights association in Italy, the price of European flights will almost double compared to last year. Confirming ISTAT data, Codacons explained that in the last month, fares for European flights have increased by 91% compared to the same period in 2021. Intercontinental flights, on the other hand, registered a price increase of 35.7%, while domestic flights have increased by 15.2%.

Summer 2022 prices for maritime transport will also increase. Specifically, in the last month, ferry fares increased by 19.4% compared to the same period in 2021.

While air and sea transport prices have increased, rail ticket prices have fallen by 9.9% compared to 2021 in Italy. This reduction follows fewer COVID-related restrictions in Italy and the return of offers and discounts for travel within the country this summer.

Beach resort prices in Italy

In summer 2022 not only are transport prices on the rise, but it will also be more expensive to spend a day at the beach. But by how much? According to Consumerismo, this year those visiting the beach in Italy will spend an average of 144 euros for a day at the beach compared to 109 euros a year ago. The average increase for things such as parasols, sunbeds and deckchairs will be 20% compared to last year.

For example, for a parasol and two sunbeds at the weekend on an average Italian beach, you will have to pay between 20 and 30 euros per day, and this amount will rise to 150 euros in more prestigious resorts. A monthly ticket could therefore cost between 600 and 900 euros, and a season ticket between 1,500 and 3,000 euros.
