Venice, renowned for its picturesque canals, historic landmarks, and rich cultural heritage, is taking bold steps to manage the overwhelming influx of tourists by once again charging tourists an entry fee in 2025. This landmark initiative aims to curb "over-tourism" and preserve the city's unique character for future generations. Here’s everything you need to know about the fee, how it will work, and why it's happening.

Venice tourist fee 2025

Venice will reintroduce a tourist fee for access to its historic centre between mid-April and the end of July 2025, doubling the price to 10 euros for last-minute payments, according to a statement.

The aim of this measure, which was trialled this year, is to establish a new system for managing tourist flows and to discourage day tourism in Venice during certain periods, in line with "the delicate and unique nature of the city," stated Mayor Luigi Brugnaro.

Venice entry fee 2025 dates

For the upcoming year, the fee will be applied for 54 days.

  • Initially, it will be charged in one block from 18 April to 4 May, continuing on the following days in May: 9, 10, 11, 16, 17, 18, 23, 24, 25, 30, and 31.
  • Additionally, in June, tickets will need to be reserved for 1, 2, 6, 7, 8, 13, 14, 15, 20, 21, 22, 27, 28, and 29, while the July dates include 4, 5, 6, 11, 12, 13, 18, 19, 20, 25, 26, and 27.

How much is the fee?

Regarding the price, the access fee will be five euros for those who book up to the day before their arrival, whereas it will be 10 euros for those who book from three days prior to their visit.

Also for 2025, the fee will only apply to the historic centre and not to the smaller islands, such as Lido di Venezia (including Alberoni and Malamocco), Pellestrina, Murano, Burano, Torcello, Sant'Erasmo, Mazzorbo, Mazzorbetto, Vignole, S. Andrea, Certosa, San Servolo, S. Clemente, and Poveglia.

How can tourists pay the Venice access fee?

The city has set up an online booking system where tourists can pay before arrival. Alternatively, kiosks around Venice will offer another point of payment. The system is intended to work smoothly for day-trippers, who will receive a QR code that serves as proof of payment.

To obtain the QR access code, visitors must register on the designated website, which is already available, while payment can only be made between 08:30 and 16:00. The fee payment will be completed through a platform, where visitors can obtain the QR code to show at checkpoints.

Venice access fee exemptions

Exempt from the fee are those born in or residing in Venice, children under 14, individuals requiring care, and police and armed forces personnel. Meanwhile, workers, students, and family members will not pay but must request exemption.
