The Gentlemen, the Netflix series created by Guy Ritchie, features sweeping fields, historic houses, London clubs and, in its second season, available since 3 September 2026, even Italian lakes. All of it helps build the contrast between an aristocratic façade and the criminal underworld at the centre of the story. But where was The Gentlemen actually filmed? The answer is less obvious than it might seem: the estate that dominates the series does not exist as a single real-life place, but is instead the result of a proper patchwork of historic British houses and studio sets.
Halstead Manor does not exist: the English estates used in the series
Halstead Manor, the property inherited by Eddie Horniman (Theo James), is one of The Gentlemen’s most recognisable settings. It does not exist as one standalone location, though.
The production brought together several historic British residences to recreate the feeling of a huge aristocratic estate: lived-in, established and just slightly faded around the edges.
Location supervisor Iggy Ellis selected places that could give the impression of homes genuinely inhabited by the same families for generations. In Britain, the second season added further residences, including Ashcombe House, owned by Guy Ritchie himself, and Salisbury Cathedral.
Badminton House, Gloucestershire: the face of Halstead Manor
The visual centrepiece of Halstead Manor is Badminton House, the historic Gloucestershire home of the Dukes of Beaufort. The Somerset family bought the Great and Little Badminton estates in 1612, and the house still has the lived-in, authentic feel that persuaded the production team.
Most of the estate’s exterior scenes were filmed here. The practical difficulty was its distance from London, however, so the production could only use it for a limited number of days and had to rely on other locations as well.
Loseley Park and Stoke Court: Halstead’s interiors
For the interiors and surrounding grounds, the crew chose Loseley Park, an elegant Elizabethan house near Guildford in Surrey. The property provided several of Halstead’s indoor settings and, above all, the woodland where Eddie chases Jethro (Josh Finan). The grounds also feature the gamekeeper’s cottage.
Another key location for the interiors is Stoke Court in Buckinghamshire, where the study, sitting room, orangery and boot room were filmed.
Wrotham Park: Stanley Johnston’s house
Not every residence in the series belongs to the Horniman world. Bridgewater House, the luxurious home of billionaire Stanley Johnston (Giancarlo Esposito), is in fact Wrotham Park. This is a neo-Palladian house in Hertfordshire, designed by architect Isaac Ware in 1754. Its rooms provide the backdrop for the confrontation between Johnston and Susie Glass.
The Gentlemen filming locations in London
As Eddie moves from aristocratic country life into London’s criminal underworld, the scenery changes completely. London provides several of the series’ best-known locations, mixing historic corners of the capital with studio reconstructions.
- The Reform Club, Pall Mall: the celebrated London club, founded in 1836, becomes Pinky’s Club, frequented by Stanley Johnston.
- Billingsgate Market: the City’s historic fish market is used as the headquarters of the Liverpool gang.
Brandon Estate, Kennington: its buildings provide the exterior shots for the high-rise block which, in the story, is located in Croydon.
The interiors were reconstructed at Alperton Studios in Wembley, on an artificially enlarged scale to allow the action scenes to be filmed.
- Printworks, Rotherhithe: the former printing works, which became one of London’s best-known event venues before closing in 2023, hosts the underground fight scene in the second episode of season one.
Where was The Gentlemen season 2 filmed? Italy on Lake Maggiore
The second season takes Eddie and Susie beyond Britain’s borders. Filming took place in 2025, with Lake Maggiore selected as the backdrop for the characters’ expanding criminal business interests.
The Italian locations are concentrated around Verbania, Pallanza and Stresa, three of the most scenic towns on the Piedmontese shore.
Villa Rusconi-Clerici, Verbania and the Borromean Islands
The Italian shoot included Villa Rusconi-Clerici, a neoclassical residence in Pallanza overlooking the water. A temporary jetty was installed in front of the villa for filming.
Other locations include Verbania’s Grand Hotel Majestic and several stretches of the lakeside promenade.
The second season also made use of Stresa and the Borromean Islands, with their palaces, terraced gardens and instantly recognisable outlines, turning one of Piedmont’s most celebrated settings into the latest backdrop for the protagonists’ criminal dealings.
The plot of The Gentlemen: what is the Netflix series about?
Eddie Horniman (Theo James) is a former British Army officer who returns home for his father’s funeral. Rather than his older brother Freddie (Daniel Ings), he inherits the title of Duke of Halstead and the family’s vast estate.
Along with the property, however, he discovers an awkward secret: hidden beneath his land is a thriving cannabis operation run by Susie Glass (Kaya Scodelario), daughter of crime boss Bobby Glass (Ray Winstone).
Freddie’s astronomical debts and the ambitions of billionaire Stanley Johnston (Giancarlo Esposito) draw Eddie further into a criminal world he would rather avoid. The estate’s quiet keeper of many secrets is gamekeeper Geoff Seacombe (Vinnie Jones).
By the second season, Eddie is an active part of the Glass empire, and its business has expanded beyond the United Kingdom.

The Gentlemen began as a film. In 2020, Guy Ritchie directed a feature film of the same name starring Matthew McConaughey, Hugh Grant and Charlie Hunnam. The series is a separate project, with an entirely different cast and set of characters.
