The last two years of pandemic and economic recession have put Italy, Europe, and the world in general under great strain. However, there is one sector that has not suffered at all from this complicated period: luxury real estate. This sector of the economy has continued to thrive unimpeded by the interruptions that the last two years have caused in other sectors. Here, we look at where exactly the most luxury homes have sold in Italy according to Lionard SpA.
According to the company, which expects to close 2021 with a 120% increase in turnover compared to 2020 (and 160% compared to 2019), even in times of economic uncertainty and beyond, real estate is considered the refuge asset par excellence, thanks also to online sales channels, a trend that is destined to grow.
But where were the most luxury homes purchased in 2021? According to Lionard, Tuscany is confirmed as the most popular destination for those wishing to invest in luxury real estate, with 46.7% of total sales. This is followed by Lombardy with 14.7%, Liguria with 13.2%, Campania with 9.5% and finally Lazio with 9.2%. "Italy continues to attract investors and buyers from abroad, confirming luxury Made in Italy as a sector considered reliable for investment," adds Lionard's CEO, Dimitri Corti. - In fact, 64% of the super-rich who are looking for property in Italy are foreigners and the rest are Italians. Investors in luxury real estate in our country are mainly Americans, Germans, Swiss and British".
As regards the type of property, partly due to the historical moment we find ourselves in, there is an increase in requests for properties with large outdoor spaces and land. "Clients are expressing the desire to be able to create their own oasis of peace, in contact with nature," concludes Corti. "These are properties that offer an exceptional level of quality of life, as well as a secure and rewarding investment in the medium to long term".
