The small municipality of Petralia Soprana, in the province of Palermo, has also launched its very own 1 euro house project. Let's find out more about the village that was named "Borgo dei borghi" in autumn 2018, making it one of the best villages in Italy, and the initiative of selling properties at the symbolic price of 1 euro.
As in so many other cases in Italian villages, the local council has decided to launch the 1 euro home project in Petralia Soprana to counter not only the depopulation of this inland area, but also to reverse the course of a progressive fraying of the social infrastructure and urban decay and the danger generated by the abandonment of houses located in the historic centre.
In order to redevelop and secure the historic centre in Petralia Soprana, it is essential to recover abandoned and dilapidated properties, uninhabited and left unused by their owners (who often have no interest in these properties and consider them a burden).
The municipality, which cannot acquire and secure them and ensure greater decorum through renovation work without the permission of owners, offers itself as a bridge between sellers and potential buyers. And thanks to the 1 euro house project, the Petralia Soprana municipal administration is already starting to talk to owners interested in selling their old and unused properties.
Once the necessary paperwork is completed with the owners, the properties will be advertised for 1 euro, with preference given to buyers with a project to encourage the development of tourism in the village, perhaps focusing on accommodation facilities.
Petralia Soprana is a small municipality in the province of Palermo that is part of the Madonie Natural Park. In 2018, it was awarded the title of Borgo dei borghi (Village of Villages) and boasts three extraordinary belvederes: the Loreto belvedere, which overlooks Mount Etna, Enna, Caltanissetta and the Imera river valley; the Carmine belvedere, which overlooks the panorama of western Sicily towards Palermo; and the Piazza Duomo belvedere, which embraces Gangi and then Mount Etna.
