NH Hotel Group has announced the opening of its twelfth hotel in Milan, the NH Collection Milano CityLife, created from the structure of the former Cristo Re church. This is what the new resort looks like.

Started in 2016, the redevelopment involved a historic church, built almost a century ago at 14 Via Colleoni, designed in neo-Mannerist style and consecrated in 1935 by Cardinal Schuster. The church fell into disuse in the 1990s.

The new hotel of the international chain retains much of the original ecclesiastical building, with a Latin cross plan with three naves, original wooden doors and semicircular arches. In addition, a 13-storey tower gives the 360-room luxury hotel in the heart of Milan's CityLife a unique touch.

6 meeting rooms for up to 520 people, a rooftop swimming pool, a large private garden and parking for 43 cars complete the project.

According to the architect in charge of the project, Michele Reginaldi, transforming and enhancing a cult building, turning it into a meeting place dedicated to hospitality, was "a real challenge". "We tried to reinterpret the spaces of the hotel, always safeguarding the spatial characteristics of the original building and respecting the decorative ensemble and the most significant architectural elements, in order to establish a principle of continuity and permanence in the historical development of the building," added the architect.
