The list of Italian villages offering houses for sale for one euro is still growing. The Sicilian village of Leonforte has also decided to offer the houses in its characteristic Baroque historic centre for a symbolic price. Let's find out what this is all about.

Leonforte, in the province of Enna, is a beautiful village that is home to Mount Altesina, on top of which stand the remains of an important prehistoric village, so much so that the Mount Altesina Nature Reserve was recently established. In this small village there are several tourist and cultural attractions, besides the churches here there are also Palazzo Branciforti, the Villa Comunale, the stables, the garden and fountain of the nymphs and Palazzo Gussio.

It is a village that is a treasure trove of beauty and culture, which is why the municipal administration wants to give it a new impetus with the 1 euro houses project in Leonforte, encouraging the repopulation of an area to be safeguarded for its social and cultural fabric.

The municipality of Leonforte has a baroque historic centre with listed monuments and the 1 euro houses innitiative should also be seen in the light of the need to reorganise and develop the existing property stock, which consists of dilapidated buildings in the municipality's historic centre that are in a state of neglect and decay.

Moreover, like all small towns' historic centres, Leonforte's has suffered depopulation and, consequently, the municipal administration intends to implement a series of measures aimed at redeveloping and recovering the municipality's historic centre.

The 1 euro house project in Leonforte provides for the planning, management of measures and actions to recover the housing function and revitalise the municipality's historic centre by redeveloping the urban and building fabric in order to encourage the housing of families, but also tourist accommodation and shops or craft workshops.

The offer of 1 euro houses in Leonforte is also extended to non-residents of the municipality. The Administration has specified that "adequate forms of transparency and publicity will be observed in the procedures for the assignment of the properties, also in relation to the objective of evaluating competing proposals for the purchase of the properties in accordance with the specific provisions of this notice" (here is the application form for making an offer for one of the 1 euro houses).
