For almost twenty years, VPF, a company based in San Vito dei Normanni, Apulia, has been manufacturing and selling mobile homes on wheels for campsites and tourist villages. These structures are manufactured on the basis of standard or 'tailor-made' floor plans, i.e., designed to measure directly on the design provided by the customer. VPF purchasing manager Rossella Fasano opened the doors of these prefabricated houses in Italy, which definitely give traditional homes a run for their money, to idealista/news.
"We deal with mobile homes with wheels," Fasano explains, "i.e. those suitable for installation inside campsites. The construction procedure for these houses is standard: a galvanised steel base and insulated polyurethane foam panels are installed on the wheels, which provide thermal and acoustic insulation for the house. They are therefore suitable for summer and winter use".
"On our website we have organised 24 standard floor plans, but in reality they are endless because the most important thing about our company is that we give the customer the possibility to customise. A client can easily send us their customised floor plan and we produce the house."
"When it comes to floor plans, we start with the smallest ones, which are 15 m2 (3x5) up to the assembled ones, i.e. up to 70 m2. On each plan we apply the line chosen by the customer, which will then be equipped with fewer or more options". "Up to 24 m2 (i.e. 3x8), we also have the option of applying a number plate and registration certificate and thus making it road-legal".
"There is no luxury line, it is the customer who chooses all the options to add to the house. The Iron line, for example, not only has a special furniture, but it has the walkable attic where you can build another room or a hot tub. If the attic is not required, we also have a technical walkable roof'.
But VPF does not only produce mobile homes. "There is also the possibility of having a reception, spa, bar, everything that could be useful for a campsite."
What permits are needed for mobile homes in Italy?
The regulations state that you cannot install a mobile home on private land. Modifications would have to be made. First of all remove the wheels. The walls are also important and should be thick enough to be classified in class B and thus obtain a permit from the municipality.
"On private land the prefab houses have to have an internal height of at least 2.70 metres and above all require a building permit, which is not necessary for mobile homes for camping sites."
