In 2025, the Region of Sardinia has renewed and expanded several incentives designed to support homebuyers, encourage families to relocate, and help counter depopulation in smaller towns. Alongside the regional bonuses for buying or renovating a house, there are also financial benefits for newborns and university students living away from home.
One of the most significant incentives is the non-repayable grant of up to €15,000 available to those who purchase or renovate a home in municipalities at risk of depopulation. But this is only one of several measures available in Sardinia in 2025. Below is an overview of all the main bonuses and how to access them.
First-home bonuses in Sardinia for 2025
For 2025, Sardinia has introduced a number of “home bonuses”, including:
Up to €15,000 for buying or renovating a home in small municipalities
This regional grant is aimed at those who wish to buy or refurbish a primary residence in towns with fewer than 3,000 inhabitants, helping to support local communities and reverse depopulation.
Photovoltaic system incentive
Households with an ISEE under €15,000 could apply until 15 October 2025 for a bonus covering the installation of photovoltaic panels with battery storage.
Allowances for newborns in small towns
Sardinia also offers €600 per month for the first child and €400 for subsequent children, available throughout 2025 for families living in towns with fewer than 5,000 residents.
Rent support for off-site students
Students studying away from home can access annual rental contributions, with details updated each academic year.
Incentives for moving to Sardinia in 2025
To encourage new residents, the Region of Sardinia has set aside substantial funding:
- €15 million per year from 2022 to 2024
- An additional €10 million in 2023
- A further €15 million for 2025
These funds support the €15,000 first-home grant, available to young couples, large families and individuals in socio-economic difficulty.
How the €15,000 Sardinia home bonus works
- Covers up to 50% of the total cost, with a maximum grant of €15,000
- Applies to the purchase or renovation of a primary residence
- Excludes luxury property categories (A1, A8, A9)
- Applicants must transfer their official residence to the property and maintain it for at least five years
How to find eligible municipalities (under 3,000 inhabitants)
Each municipality publishes its own call for applications based on regional guidelines. Local councils can also introduce extra criteria, such as priority for:
- renovations in historic centres
- making an uninhabitable property safe and usable
- young couples or larger families in financial difficulty
The full list of eligible towns is available on the official Sardinia Region website under Anti-Depopulation Measures – Purchase and Renovation.
How to apply for the €15,000 home bonus in 2025
Once you choose a municipality, check its specific call for applications. You will need to:

€1 homes in Sardinia
Several Sardinian towns also participate in the popular “€1 Homes” scheme, offering abandoned properties at a symbolic price to encourage repopulation. Properties usually require full renovation but can still represent excellent value, especially compared to standard national renovation bonus schemes.
Current active municipalities include: Ollolai, Montresta, Romana, Bonnannaro, Osilo and Nulvi.
Interested buyers should consult each municipality’s official website for requirements, deadlines and application forms.
Bonuses for children born in small municipalities
Families living in – or relocating to – towns with fewer than 5,000 residents can receive monthly allowances for children born, adopted or placed in pre-adoptive foster care in 2025.
Allowance amounts
- €600 per month for the first child
- €400 per month for each subsequent child
Eligibility does not depend on income. However, at least one parent must live with the child, and the family must have a legal right to occupy the property used as their main residence.
Sardinia regional mortgage 2025: reduced interest rates
The Region also offers interest subsidies on bank mortgages, helping reduce the interest rate depending on income and property location.
These subsidised mortgages can be used for:
- buying a first home
- building a home
- renovating an existing property
Key requirements
- annual household income under €54,032.65
- EU citizenship or valid non-EU residency status
- at least five years of uninterrupted residence in Sardinia
- no prior public mortgage subsidies for the same purpose
Applications can be submitted directly through participating banks.
Rent contributions for off-site students
Every year, Sardinia offers financial support for students renting accommodation near their university. The previous call (2024–2025) distributed over €1.4 million, with funds allocated according to the student’s year and level of study.
The updated call for 2025–2026 will be published on the regional education portal.
