According to Reuters, there are reports that Uber is to stop its food delivery service in Italy. The company's decision to cease operations is attributed to its failure to establish a significant market presence in the country. An anonymous spokesperson from Uber was cited as the source of this information.
The report stated that this action aligns with Uber's strategy to concentrate on markets that offer potential for sustainable growth, as mentioned by the spokesperson. The note also referenced CEO Dara Khosrowshahi's statement that Uber will only invest in markets where it can attain a dominant or prominent position.
Should this plan be implemented to close Uber Eats in Italy, it would have an impact on approximately 50 Uber employees as well as numerous couriers and restaurants that are not directly employed by the company in Italy. On the other hand, the company stated its intention to further grow its mobility service in the same location, where it collaborates with the IT taxi dispatch system.
