Most weddings in Italy take place in spring/summer, meaning that wedding season is officially here. The cost of getting married in Italy can vary widely depending on several factors, including the location, the number of guests, the type of venue, the time of year, and the specific services and features you desire. However, the trend of getting married in Italy is on the decline, and one of the main reasons is the cost. But how much does it cost to get married in Italy? A recent study by Moneyfarm gives us an insight.

Latest figures show that the number of weddings in Italy has dropped by 28% (from 248,969 in 2004 to 180,416 in 2021, according to ISTAT). One of the reasons is the cost of the wedding ceremony and the subsequent celebrations.

But exactly how much does it cost to organise a wedding in Italy? The financial consultancy Moneyfarm has done the maths, by taking a look all the aspects of a wedding in Italy and the relative expense items. The study reveals that in Italy, the average cost of a wedding with 100 people, which also varies depending on the location and the time of year chosen, is around 25,000 euros. Having a small wedding in Italy will evidently cost less, and halving the number of guests can drop the price below 10,000 euros, while more elaborate celebrations can quickly rise to over 60,000 euros.

Prices can fluctuate, but are generally divided as follows: the costs for guests (56 per cent), reception (19 per cent), dresses (18 per cent) and ceremony (8 per cent) are the main contributors to the overall expenditure, according to Moneyfarm. It's advisable to research, plan ahead, and consult with local wedding professionals to create a realistic budget that aligns with your expectations and preferences, as well as make use of online an Italy wedding cost calculator to keep track of expenses.

Wedding venues in Italy

The venue is a significant factor in determining the cost of an Italian wedding. Italy offers a range of stunning options, such as historic villas, castles, vineyards, and luxurious hotels. Prices can vary significantly depending on the location and exclusivity of the venue. It's common for venues to have minimum spending requirements or fixed packages, especially for popular destinations like Tuscany or the Amalfi Coast.

Wedding venue hire in Italy usually ranges from 1,500 euros for the most basic ceremonies to 10,000 euros (and more) for the most exclusive celebrations; catering for the wedding lunch or dinner usually costs between 80 and 200 euros per person, depending on the menu and the type of service.

Wedding dresses and rings

When it comes to things like the wedding dresses and wedding rings, it is unlikely to cost less than 1,500 euros, with prices often reaching up to 7,000 euros for haute couture dresses, to which must be added the expenses for any accessories, not to mention hair and make-up, which for the most demanding brides can alone exceed 4,000 euros. Less expensive is the groom's suit, which, complete with shoes and accessories, ranges from a minimum of 600 euros to a maximum of over 3,000 euros.

Photographer and Videographer

Capturing the memories of your special day in Italy is important, and professional photography and videography services are a common expense. Prices can vary based on the duration of coverage, the number of photographers or videographers, and the package inclusions. Expect to budget anywhere from 1,500 to 5,000 euros or more for photography and videography in Italy.

Decor, flowers and extras

The total cost of a wedding in Italy is also increased by a series of accessories that the majority of Italian couples consider indispensable, such as flowers (from a minimum of 300 to 3,000 euros), live music (500 to 1,500 euros), wedding favours (between 5 and 30 euros per guest) and, finally, the wedding cake (for which a minimum of 200 to a maximum of 1,000 euros is spent).

Other wedding expenses in Italy

Additional costs may include transportation, accommodation, invitations, and legal translation services. It's essential to consider these factors when budgeting for your Italian wedding, especially if you and your guests will be travelling to Italy from abroad for the big day.

Also to be considered is the cost of a wedding planner in Italy, which, besides saving the bride and groom a considerable amount of stress, helps to optimise the management of the various suppliers. One of the main advantages of working with a wedding planner in Italy is the possibility if getting to know Italy wedding packages, where everything is organised and personalised for you according to your taste and budget. This can include all-inclusive wedding packages or wedding packages with accommodation in Italy.

Wedding planners in Italy are particularly common for couples from abroad who decide to get married in Italy and can be beneficial for couples unfamiliar with Italy's wedding market or who prefer assistance with organisation and coordination. Wedding planner fees in Italy can vary based on their experience, reputation, and the level of involvement required. Typically, they range from 10% to 20% of the total wedding budget.

Honeymoon costs

The cost of a wedding isn't just all about the big day. Couples also need to factor in the cost of their long awaited honeymoon. The price can vary considerably from a minimum of 5,000 euros to a maximum of 20,000 euros depending on the destination, season and duration.
