Find out where you can take advantage of Italy's holiday bonus / Gtres

Officially launched on 1st July 2020, one of Italy's incentives to encourage tourism, the holiday bonus, is still raising some doubts. A survey by UnionCamere shows that the participating facilities including hotels and tourist accommodation are still in the minority. Let's have a look at where you can find the places that accept the holiday bonus this summer 2020, as well as quick summary of the scheme.

What is Italy's holiday bonus?

From 1st July 2020 it has been possible to use the holiday bonus, a contribution of up to 500 euros per family, for holidays in hotels and accommodation located all over Italy. In order to access the bonus, which is only available in digital form, you must download the IO app and follow the procedure to obtain a unique code, which is associated with a QR code. The code must be communicated to the hotelier, together with your tax code, thus obtaining 80% of the immediate discount and the remaining 20% in the form of a tax credit in your tax return.

To be able to access the platform and subsequently obtain the holiday bonus, those wanting to apply will need the increasingly known "SPID" (public digital identity system) identity, and will need to submit an updated ISEE (the equivalent economic situation indicator) declaration for 2020.

Facilities that accept the holiday bonus

According to a survey by UnionCamere and Isnar (the National Institute for Tourism Research in Italy) on the impact of the COVID-19 emergency on more than 2000 accommodation companies, 30.8% do not accept the holiday bonus, while 57.6% say they have not received bookings in this way.

An updated list of participating hotels and accommodation establishments that accept the holiday bonus can be found on the Federalberghi italyhotels.it website. It is not only possible to find the participating facilities that accept the holiday bonus on this website, but also to make reservations. It is therefore important, in this regard, to indicate the destination or hotel name, type of accommodation and your date of arrival and departure

However, the italyhotels website is not the only place where you can find a list of properties participating in the holiday bonus.

  • Camping.it has a page dedicated to participating establishments in Italian campsites or holiday villages.
  • On the Bed-and-Breakfast.it website, you will find a list of B&B accommodation facilities that accept the holiday bonus in Italy divided by region, from Sicily to Trentino, passing through Puglia and Tuscany and on to the rest of the country.
