Madrid is confirmed as Europe's best meeting destination for the third year running. However, the list of cities nominated in the 'Europe's Leading Meetings & Conference Destination' category of the World Travel Awards 2020 also includes Milan, making the city one of the top business meeting destinations in Europe

The organisers of this prestigious international award crowned the Spanish capital for hosting "a wide variety of meetings, corporate forums, trade fairs, conferences, sporting events and all kinds of presentations". As examples of the main spaces, they refer to the "imposing Caja Mágica designed by Dominique Perrault, with a surface area of more than 83,000m2, some 16,400 grandstand seats and two other stadiums with 4,700 seats", as well as the "Palacio de Congresos de Madrid, with a 1,800-seat auditorium, multifunctional spaces and exhibition halls".

The list of the main destinations for business meeting tourism in the Europe, in addition to Madrid and Milan, also includes many other important European cities such as Copenhagen, Barcelona, Vienna, London, Paris, Berlin, Amsterdam, Athens, Frankfurt and Istanbul, while Milan, the Lombardy capital is the only Italian city to be nominated in this specific category.

Milan is one of the most visited cities for business travel in Europe, and the city is known in Italy as a financial hub that is home to the national stock exchange. Milan is known as a great city for business people to live in, while much of Milan's tourism, in fact, is due to corporate events and meetings in the city, as well as the wide range of cultural offerings that have been growing in recent years. It is not surprising, therefore, that a Milanese hotel (the Milan Marriott Hotel) was the winner of the Italy's Leading Business Hotel 2020 category at the latest World Travel Awards held at the end of 2020.
