The most recent increases in electricity and gas bills in Italy date back to the update of electricity and gas tariffs according to production costs in Arera's usual quarterly report. For the months of July, August and September 2021, the increase is 9.9% for electricity and 15.3% for gas for the typical household.
The new report containing the updates is expected on 1st October. And there are further price increases in Italy in sight. According to the National Union of Consumers, considering constant prices on an annual basis, the price increases will be 56 euros more for electricity and 158 euros for gas, amounting to an expenditure of 214 euros more per year.
The main causes of the price rises of gas and electricity in Italy lie, in particular, in the growth of energy commodity prices, the increase in demand for methane and the high prices of CO2 emission permits.
