Lombardy's mountain refuges are opening their doors to bring young people and their families closer to nature thanks to the initiative known in Italy as "#Fg4m - Estate 2022 in rifugio" Until September, young people under 16 can apply for free overnight stays in Lombardy's mountain cabins. The project, which runs until 25th September 2022, is promoted by the Italian Alpine Club (CAI) and Assorifugi Lombardia, and financed by the Lombardy Regional Council as part of the regional mountain law.
Everyone can apply for free nights in log cabins in Lombardy, both members and non-members of the Italian Alpine Club. The aim is to give young people (under 16) a free experience in a mountain hut by choosing from those participating on the CAI Lombardy website, where it will be indicated whether the cabin is only available midweek, excluding pre-holiday nights and nights between Saturday and Sunday, or whether there are no limits.
In detail, half-board service will be made available free of charge for young people in the cabins, which can only be used if combined with the half-board option of the family members or first-degree relatives accompanying the young people.
How to participate and stay in Lombardy for free
To take part in this free stay initiative, families (single family members or first-degree relatives) accompanying children under 16, after checking the availability of the chosen cabin by contacting the facility directly, must fill in an application form. The participating facilities can be consulted online, and once the request has been accepted, they will receive a voucher by email, confirming the personal data transmitted and the facility and dates chosen for the overnight stay.
Each individual young person may not request more than two free overnight stays. The possibility of joining will be bound by the achievement of the available budget. The initiative involves a total of about 100 Lombardy cabins in the provinces of Bergamo, Brescia, Como, Lecco and Sondrio.
