Demoskopika has published its most recent Regional Tourism Reputation Index. The ranking of the tourism reputation of the Italian regions is in its sixth edition and awards Trentino-Alto Adige with the top spot as the best holiday destination in Italy in 2023. This region in Northern Italy is followed by Tuscany and Emilia-Romagna. Let's find out more about the best regions of Italy to visit this year.

To compile the ranking, Demoskopika analyses the following indicators: visibility and interest of regional institutional tourism portals, their social appeal among stakeholders, popularity, trust and trends of each regional tourism destination as a whole and, finally, the reputation of the accommodation system.

Trentino-Alto Adige once again took first place this year in the general ranking of the best holiday destinations, as it is the Italian region with the highest tourism reputation. In particular, the Regional Tourism Reputation Index of the destination, according to the methodological scheme prepared by Demoskopika, is 117 points.

Trentino-Alto Adige's gold medal is more than positively influenced by its first place as the 'most social destination in Italy' and second place as the accommodation offer with the highest approval by tourists/consumers.

Tuscany comes in second place in the overall medal table. The region continues to be at the top of both the most searched tourist destinations in Italy and in the world, as well as being second among those considered most popular on the web according to consumer behaviour.

Emilia-Romagna

Third place goes to Emilia-Romagna, whose performance was significantly influenced by the pages indexed on Google as an initial assessment of the volume of the destination's online offer, institutional visibility on the main social channels, and a significant positioning on the assessment level of the accommodation offer.

Umbria

Lastly, Umbria holds the primacy of the regional destination with the best performance with respect to the previous edition, earning a leap forward of no less than five positions in the Regional Tourism Reputation Index: Umbria was awarded 13th place, compared to 18th the previous year, immediately followed by Marche, Lazio and Campania, climbing three places in the overall ranking on tourism reputation.
