Fancy a free holiday in the heart of the Dolomites? Then apply for the worst tourist in the world title. Although it sounds strange, it is all true and part of an awareness-raising and promotion project. It is the Recharge Nature campaign, which aims to relaunch the Belluno Dolomites territory through an original and innovative contest. Let's find out more.
The project
The campaign aims to draw attention to climate change, which is running faster in the Alps than in the rest of the planet, making the highlands one of the most vulnerable areas, according to the IPCC Sixth Assessment Report.
The effects of climate change and global warming are now evident, and the Recharge Nature campaign wants to be an opportunity to redeem the heart of the Dolomites, but also an opportunity to rethink tourism, educating travellers to be more responsible without through small changes in everyday actions.
Recharge Nature offers the chance to experience a free extreme holiday to recharge nature: five days in the wilderness to compensate through an experience totally outside one's comfort zone for the impact of one's actions during the trip.
An extreme holiday
The winner of the Recharge Nature contest will win a week in the small village of Bramezza (on the slopes of Mount Sasso Bianco, overlooking Lake Alleghe and looking down on Mount Civetta), which today has only one resident. Whoever is singled out as the worst tourist in the world will stay in traditional accommodation, only accessible on foot without any amenities.
The world's worst tourist will only rely on naturally available and totally sustainable energy sources, cultivate the earth and eat only zero-kilometre food. They will meet the local community to learn about the fragility of a mountain territory through the stories and experiences of those who live there, love it and resist the changes taking place.
With this unique experience, they will become aware of their own irresponsible behaviour, which, added to that of so many others, contributes to a negative impact on the planet, initiating a process of inner change towards a more conscious and respectful way of travelling, also in the company of experts and well-known personalities - who will join them during the experience
How to participate?
You can apply, until 30 July, on the Recharge Nature website. Once you have entered your data, you must answer a questionnaire and then submit a video presentation, which is not compulsory but is strongly recommended and can be inserted at the end of the questionnaire (it must be a maximum of 1 minute and in mp4 format).
