Piazza del Duomo tree and surrounding illuminations

The city’s signature scene is a soaring tree crowned by the cathedral’s marble spires, and rows of market chalets ringing the square from early December to early January.

Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II dome and arcade lights

Under the glass dome, a central tree rises each year—sometimes crystal-bright, sometimes fashion-forward, depending on the sponsor. The window displays are also half the fun, so linger and browse.

Via Montenapoleone and the Quadrilatero d’Oro

This is Milan’s festive catwalk. Signature street designs frame the pavements while the Quadrilatero’s boutiques roll out theatrical façades.

Down by the canals, the lights ripple on the water, and the mood turns playful. The Darsena Ice Rink adds a bit of old-school winter charm, and the stalls are great for warming snacks as you wander.

Porta Nuova and Piazza Gae Aulenti

Modern Milan dresses up, too. Expect a contemporary tree or light installation and a sweep of skyline views from Gae Aulenti’s terraces.
