Although the COVID-19 health crisis is not over in Italy, the desire to disconnect and enjoy the summer holidays is becoming increasingly evident in Italy and across Europe. Many tourists and holidaymakers will return to Italy this summer, many choosing hotels or tourist accomodation for their stay. For those who decide to rent an apartment to spend this summer in Italy, here is a guide of eight rules to choose a holiday home that is safe from the coronavirus and travel safely. This guide has been released by the Postal and Communications Police in Italy and the National Consumer Union.
Let's see what their rules for choosing the right holiday accomodation in Italy this summer are:
- Look for properties with realistic and complete photos where everything isn't too polished (to verify the coherence and truthfulness between images and houses, use an image web search engine to upload the photos in the advertisement and check that they are not repertory photos and actually shots of a real house);
- Focus on accommodation that offers a complete and detailed description of the property;
- Contact the advertiser via the chat or the contact provided (ask for additional information and photos of the property - it's also good idea to ask for a telephone contact number, if possible a landline);
- Make sure the price of the property is adequate. Have a look on the website and on other websites to compare prices of holiday homes in the area;
- Meet with the advertiser if possible. This is advisable to verify that everything is in order, meaning that you can visit of the house and deliver the amount due in person. If you're not able to go in person, you could ask somone you trust to check out the property for you;
- Check out the deposit value: remember that the request for a deposit is legitimate, provided that it does not exceed 20% of the total;
- Do not send personal documents (documents such as ID cards and passports can be used for illegal purposes under these circumstances);
- Make payments only via bank transfer using the IBAN or through traced payment methods.
