If you're struggling with the heat in your Italian holiday home this summer, choosing an alternative to air conditioning is proving more and more attractive thanks to rising electricity prices. But how much does a fan consume? And how much does it cost to run a fan? We have the details.
How much electricity does a fan use compared to air conditioning?
A typical fan consumes between 50 and 100 Watts per hour. Above everything, this is an interesting saving, when you consider that standard air conditioning consumes around 700 watts per hour. This means that not only can you save on installing expensive air con, but your electricity bill will also benefit.
How much does a ceiling fan consume
Some Italian properties also have ceiling fans installed. To find out how much a ceiling fan consumes, it is first necessary to check the consumption in watts indicated on the outside of the packaging or in the instruction manual. For example, if a device consumes 70 watts and we consider 8 hours of use, the energy consumed by the fan will be 560 Wh (watt-hours). This value corresponds to 0.56 KWh (kilowatt hours). Multiplying the consumption of the fan in kilowatt-hours by the price of electricity, e.g. 0.30 euro per kilowatt-hour, gives the daily cost in euro. In this case, 0.160 euros. This means that in one month you would be paying 5.04 euros.
How much does a floor-standing fan consume
Another great solution to keep cool is by using a floor-standing fan which can be easily moved around the house depending on which room you're using. To find out how much a floor-standing fan consumes, it is also necessary to check the consumption in watts indicated on the outside of the packaging or in the instruction manual. If, for example, an appliance consumes 50 watts and we consider 8 hours of use, the energy consumed by the fan will be 400 Wh (watt-hours). This value corresponds to 0.4 KWh (kilowatt hours). Multiplying the consumption of the fan in kilowatt-hours by the price of electricity, e.g. 0.30 euro per kilowatt-hour, gives the daily cost in euro: in this case, 0.12 euros, which in one month is 3.60 euros.
How much does a table fan consume
The same goes for working out how much a table fan consumes. You have to check the consumption in watts of the device, e.g. 34 watts, and consider the hours of use, e.g. 8. In this case, the energy consumed by the fan will be 272 Wh (watt-hours). This value corresponds to 0.272 KWh (kilowatt hours). Multiplying the consumption of the fan in kilowatt-hours by the price of electricity, e.g. 0.30 euro per kilowatt-hour, gives the daily cost of about 0.08 euros and a monthly cost of 2.40 euros.
