After Patrica, another municipality in the Lazio region of Italy is launching the now well-known "houses for 1 euro" initiative. It is the turn of Maenza, a medieval village in the province of Latina. A new project for the sale of houses for 1 euro is coming to Lazio. Specifically, the initiative of the medieval village of Maenza is called "Pact for the historic centre". The aim is to recover abandoned houses and repopulate the historic centre. On the municipal website there is a page devoted to this initiative, which states that the project aims to recover and enhance the value of buildings "located in the historic centre, returning them to their function, especially housing, in order to recover or, at least, stem the phenomenon of depopulation that the municipality of Maenza has been experiencing for many years and that has led to a significant decrease in population".
"In the historical centre of Maenza," explained mayor Claudio Sperduti, "there are several abandoned houses. Some of them are also unsafe, so I have signed ordinances to try to get them fixed. And then there are those who would like to get rid of these buildings, perhaps because they have gone to live elsewhere". This is why the administration has decided to launch this initiative, which has already conquered many small towns in Italy. The mayor added: "We're in the process of doing the procedures, we don't have any houses available yet, but the resolution that has just been approved has had a lot of media coverage and requests have already started to arrive. There is a lot of interest in this type of investment."
As with the other "houses for 1 euro" initiatives, Maenza's "Patto per il centro storico" project envisages a symbolic cost of 1 euro for the purchase of the property, after which it must be renovated within three years. "The project is at the beginning," stressed the mayor of Maenza, "from here in two months we will publish the showcase with the available properties and then we will begin to accept offers". He added: "The initial phase has started, it's a project that will develop over time."
But why decide to buy a house for 1 euro in Maenza? "Maenza," explains the mayor, "is a town where the quality of life is good, even compared to this pandemic that has made us rediscover the goodness of small towns. It is a very welcoming medieval town, where there are many initiatives both in summer and winter. We are also half an hour from the beach, and in a short time you can reach Terracina, Circeo and Gaeta". Sperduti concluded by stressing: "Although the initiative has just started, there is already great interest."
