Today we'll focus on electricity and gas bills in Italy. Let's see what changes are coming into force from 1st October 2019.

Electricity and gas tariffs in Italy's regulated market will rise. The Autorità di Regolazione per Energia Reti e Ambiente (ARERA) announced that from 1st October electricity will increase by 2.6% and gas by 3.9%.

The increases are due to the seasonal trend and the international scenario, with the reduction of Dutch gas production and restrictions on access to some pipelines. Also, oil flames linked to attacks on oil platforms.

Specifically, in the case of electricity, the increase is the result of a rise in electricity purchase costs, mitigated by a reduction in general expenses. In the case of natural gas, the trend is determined entirely by the increase in expenditure on raw materials, linked to the seasonal quotations forecast in the wholesale markets for the next quarter, and by a slight adjustment in transport costs.

However, it appears that in 2019 household spending will remain substantially unchanged compared to 2018 (+1%).
