Procida, a tiny but beautiful island in the Gulf of Naples, has been crowned Italian Capital of Culture 2022. With its winning presentation titled La Cultura non Isola, Procida fought off the 9 other Italian finalists battling for the crown: Ancona, Bari, Cerveteri, L'Aquila, Pieve di Soligo, Taranto, Trapani, Verbania and Volterra.

After a tough competition, Procida took the title. This is the first time that the Italian Capital of Culture crown has been awarded to a village and not a larger provincial capital, highlighting that it was the not the candidate's size that was necessary to win this coveted title, but in fact its project. Those involved in the project stated that "Procida island is a place of exploration, experimentation and knowledge, it is a model of cultures and a metaphor of contemporary man. Power of imagination and concreteness of vision show Procida as an exemplary capital of relational dynamics, of practices of inclusion and of care for cultural and natural heritage".

Where is Procida, Italy?

It measures less than 4km2 and is served by frequent ferry services from Naples and Ischia, while having several good hotels and tourist accommodation at more affordable prices than other more well known Italian beauty-spots.
