With summer 2021 just around the corner and COVID-19 travel restrictions gradually being lifted, many are dreaming of a holiday in Italy this summer. While Italy can be expensive for a holiday, this very much depends on where you decide to go, and there are still options for top places to visit in Italy on a budget. With the help of Post Office Travel Money in the UK, we're going to take a closer look at the cheapest holiday destination in Italy

Italy is home to a range of affordable holiday destinations in spite of its reputation as being expensive wherever you go, although it is by no means the cheapest destination in Europe. According to the Holiday Money Report 2021, after gaining input from national and regional tourist boards and researching prices in 8 categories in Italy, including the cost of a bottle of water, a coffee, a soft drink, a beer, dinner for two complete with a bottle of wine, a glass of wine, insect repellent and sun cream, the cheapest holiday destination in Italy is Puglia, also known as Apulia

Puglia comes in 14th place and is the only Italian region in the ranking. While it's the cheapest place to holiday in Italy according to the report, visiting the area's golden beaches, charming villages and traditional architecture will cost you more than other European destinations, Spain and Portugal included, where prices in some cases are halved. Check out the full ranking below:
