Like so many of 1 euro house schemes in Italy in 2021, the aim in this Italian village is to combat depopulation and recover the residential function of the historic town centre by redeveloping buildings in such a way as to encourage the settlement of families, tourist accommodation and shops or craft workshops. Therefore, by selling houses for 1 euro in Calatafimi Segesta, the local council hopes to revitalise the historic part of the town.

Applications to buy one of these 1 euro houses in Italy are open until 30th October 2021. As explained in details of the scheme, published on the Municipality of Calatafimi Segesta website, houses can be bought buy individuals, traders, companies, craft enterprises, cooperative societies, associations, foundations and other non-profit organisations. 

It is also important to take note of the conditions for buying a 1 euro house in Calatafimi Segesta in Sicily. The properties acquired will have to be renovated according to the terms indicated by the council. Specifically, renovation work must begin within and no later than 3 months after the building permit has been issued and must be completed within 3 years.
