There aren’t many hotel addresses in Venice with the gravitas of Hotel Danieli. Set directly on the lagoon, just a short stroll from Piazza San Marco, it has been woven into the city’s social and cultural life since the 19th century.

After more than three years closed for restoration, the legendary palace is preparing to reopen as A Four Seasons Hotel, marking a significant new chapter for one of the city’s most storied properties.

The official reopening date for Hotel Danieli is August 26th, 2026, with bookings already being accepted.

Formerly a Luxury Collection Hotel, the property will now operate under Four Seasons management in partnership with Italian owner Gruppo Statuto.

The relaunch positions it as a fully restored 5-star luxury hotel, blending its historic palatial setting with the understated service style associated with Four Seasons.

History of Hotel Danieli Venice

The story of Hotel Danieli Venice spans more than five centuries

What stands today on the lagoon is the result of three separate palaces gradually brought together into one hotel.

  • 15th century – Palazzo Dandolo is constructed as a noble family residence
  • 1822 – Palazzo Dandolo is officially converted into a hotel
  • 19th centuryPalazzo Casa Nuova is incorporated into the property
  • 1950Palazzo Danieli Excelsior is added to the complex
  • Early 2000s - Hotel Danieli operates as part of Marriott’s Luxury Collection
  • 2026 – New chapter as Danieli, a Four Seasons Hotel

Celebrities at Hotel Danieli

Over the years, the hotel has welcomed an impressive list of guests, including Charles Dickens, Charlie Chaplin, Coco Chanel, Madonna and George Clooney

That lineage has helped cement its reputation as one of Venice’s most prestigious addresses.

Restoration and design: Pierre-Yves Rochon’s vision

The restoration has been overseen by French interior architect Pierre-Yves Rochon, whose portfolio includes several landmark Four Seasons hotels across Europe.

Materials and craftsmanship remain distinctly Venetian. Expect Murano glass, produced locally since the 13th century, alongside Rubelli fabrics and Italian marbles.

When the hotel reopens in August 2026, it will offer 120 rooms and suites, with an additional 56 planned for 2027.

In a city where historic buildings often mean smaller layouts, the emphasis on connecting rooms and suites stands out. This makes the property more practical for families or groups travelling together. Many of the accommodations face the water, with open views across the lagoon towards Venice’s outer islands.

Dining, bars and the Danieli Spa

Dining remains central to the Danieli identity.

Restaurant Terrazza Danieli, led by Executive Chef Adriano Rausa, occupies the rooftop and looks out over the lagoon.

  • The kitchen will focus on locally sourced ingredients, including produce from Sant’Erasmo, the agricultural island that supplies much of Venice’s seasonal vegetables.

Two distinct bar spaces complete the picture:

  • Bar Dandolo, an elegant setting just off the lobby for cocktails, coffee and afternoon tea
  • Terrazza Danieli;  designed for aperitivo al fresco as the light fades over domes and bell towers

In late 2026, the Danieli Spa is set to open with three treatment rooms, including a couples’ room, as well as a sauna and hammam.

Exclusive experiences and authentic Venice through Four Seasons

Four Seasons is placing strong emphasis on curated local experiences rather than just a beautiful room.

Planned activities include less touristy things such as:

  • Learning Voga Veneta, the traditional Venetian rowing style, at one of the city’s oldest rowing clubs
  • Visiting hidden gardens tucked behind private palazzi
  • Gaining insight into Venice’s lagoon ecosystem and the tidal floodgate system that protects this UNESCO World Heritage Site

There is also mention of visits with local cultural figures, offering a window into contemporary Venetian life beyond the postcard version of gondolas and grand façades.
