Italy is preparing to say goodbye to the green pass. From 1st April 2022, the green pass will no longer be compulsory for all outdoor venues (except stadiums) and for many indoor venues (but the requirement to wear an FFP2 mask remains).

Italy's Prime Minister Mario Draghi earlier this month announced an end to the country's COVID-19 state of emergency on 31st March 2022. But what does this mean for COVID rules in Italy? Will Italy relax its enhanced green pass rules?

As of 6th December, the super green pass, the Covid digital certification that can only be obtained if vaccinated or cured of Covid, is in force. No enhanced green pass can be obtained by those who only present a negative Covid test.

The super green pass decree has introduced an enhanced green certificate in Italy, which will be in force from 6 December to 15 January.

From December, Italy's super green pass will give free access to many activities (except workplaces) only to people who have been vaccinated against or recovered from covid, leaving out those who have had a test.

The Italian government is further extending its COVID-19 green pass scheme, meaning that the green Pass will now be a necessary requirement for workers in certain sectors, as well as for individuals and tourists in some cases.
